What Is Measured In The Free Calculator:

• This free carbon calculator provides a summary of some of the common GHG emissions and is suitable for individuals offsetting.

• Be aware that many other online calculators often only show CO2e emissions. Both our free & full version calculators follow the GHG protocol (when measuring data is available) with a breakdown of emission gas types and totals expressed in CO2e. CO2e stands for carbon dioxide equivalent (includes CO2, NO2, CH4)

• The data you enter into the calculator should reflect the GHG emissions that you have directly or indirectly created over a 12 month period. 

• The free calculator cannot be used towards carbon positive certification as it does not cover all of the emissions that are shown in our full version calculator. Our full version calculator also a breakdown of the emissions into scope categories (scope 1, 2, 3) that is required to follow the GHG protocol standards (see the Standards section in 'Become Certified').

Our free carbon calculator covers the most common emissions from 8 measured areas:​

1. Fuel emissions (including stationary fuels used at home)

2. Electricity used emissions & transmission/distribution losses from the electricity used

3. Working from home emissions

4. Travel emissions (including employee commutes to and from work, public transport, private vehicles, air travel, & accommodation)

5. Water supply & wastewater removal emissions 

6. Waste emissions

Specific emissions related to industries such as importing, primary industries, or construction are not shown in the free calculator. A customised data sheet is provided when you apply for carbon positive certification.

• Amount & type of fuels, oils, gas purchased​

• Amount & type of fuel used in vehicles

• Electricity usage

• Number of work from home days

• Commute distances and modes of commute

• Records of flights & accommodation

• Water & wastewater usage receipts

• Waste records
